Daily Thoughts, Random Thoughts, Venting Area
Origins of the word "pain" are interesting.  In Greek, Latin and French references from 11th to 13th century it seems to be linked more or less to penance, retribution.  Too, the simple form of absence of pleasure, torment.

Medieval types often felt that affliction was the result of sins committed.  Or that we all were  guilty and deserved what we got.  So, the practice of the "penitentes" those pro active monks--and others--who scourged themselves or put rocks in their shoes to take the pain, remind them they were guilty, or to suffer the way of Christ.

That idea still exists when you deal with the docs on RX, somewhere deep and unquestioned.   Late as the 50s, cancer patients were quarantined in facilities with dark cutains and their treatment in some ways reflected that of lepers.

Seems there is still the taint of guilt in some unmentionable way for people in chronic pain.

Samuel Butler wrote a satire of Victorian society called "Erewhon" around 1870.  Ill people were treated as criminals in Erewhon--"Nowhere" spelled backwards.  I actually read that one.

It's very primal, archaic.  Crazy stuff, but, I think, still there to a degree.

So, I guess just fess up, clean up your act, and you'll feel better, ha.  Such BS, but the current move to have docs cut back on pain meds is as much as a moral statement as a medical one.  "No Pain, No Pain" that's my own thought.

Lin, Fire, hope your days will be pain free, and sleep comes in bunches.
