Tolkien Reading Day

J.R.R. Tolkien (Jan. 3, 1892 – Sept. 2, 1973) was an English writer, poet, philologist and university professor.

He was best known as the author of the classic works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarrillion as well as Roverandom and Farmer Giles of Ham.

HISTORY

This day was started in 2003 by the Tolkien Society to encourage the readings of J.R.R. Tolkien.

March 25th was chosen as the date to honor the fall of Sauron in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

Waffle Day



Waffle Day is a tradition that is celebrated in Sweden, and to a lesser extent elsewhere, on March 25.

Waffles are typically eaten on this day.

The name comes from VÃ¥rfrudagen ("Our Lady's Day"), which in vernacular Swedish sounds almost like VÃ¥ffeldagen (waffle day).

Our Lady's Day is celebrated on March 25 (nine months before Christmas), the Christian holiday of Annunciation, and the Waffle Day is hence celebrated on the same day although it has no religious connections to Our Lady's Day.

In the United States, National Waffle Day is celebrated August 24, the date of a U.S. patent on a waffle iron.
