Doris Roberts played nosy and overbearing Marie Barone on the show Her acting career spanned more than six decades
(CNN) —
Doris Roberts, who played the nosy and overbearing mother to Ray Romano's character on the sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," has died, the show's former spokeswoman said Monday.
She was 90. Roberts played Marie Barone, who was a constant thorn in the side of her daughter-in-law, played by Patricia Heaton.
The role earned her four Emmy awards, a Screen Actors Guild award and three Emmy nominations.
"Truly the end of an era," Heaton wrote in a statement she posted on Twitter. "My wonderful TV mother-in-law and ("Everybody Loves Raymond") nemesis Doris Roberts was a consummate professional from whom I learned so much. She was funny and tough and loved life, living it to the fullest."

yes. Â They claim she died in her sleep. Â Not a bad way to go.

RIP Doris Roberts. She was a gifted actress & I still enjoy watching reruns of "Everybody Loves Raymond".

Yep me too ....I love that show and she had so many great moments acting on it....
The cast really meshed very well together.

It's getting to where I hate to watch the news. It seems like every day we lose another celebrity. It's sad and hard to believe they are gone forever.

I loved her in Everybody Loves Raymond. She made the show...I am sorry to see her go I will smile fondly when I think of her
