Yeah Popster, thats the wide shot for sure.  I went there with my ex-so--still "other" at least, ha.  From sub-tropical Maui, up and up, and chilly at the rim, then hot as the devil once the sun crests the rim and hits the floor.  The multitude of smaller cones and cinder floor just don't show until you are in them.  good one.

One for the motor heads? I have a Ford Anglia with a 383 stroker, unfortunately incriminating names are on that car.
Its a 40/60 car with coil over airbag rear suspension.

Helluva car Forme,

If I could show up at a high school reunion in that, it would justify my whole existence, ha.

So Spanky........we have a few things of common interest.....Haleakala and now Mili Fiori glass......long before paperweights, one of Venice's islands (Murano) was creating African trade (Slave) beads in the Mili Fiori style.

Here's a couple of pictures that may interest you....the first is a basket 1/4 full of various Italian African trade beads specifically made for West Africa.....the second is a close up of some of the beads in the basket...many of which fall into the Mili Fiori design group. It is too long an explanation to write of the method of making these beads (google it)...but many of these are several hundreds of years old....and hand made.........I personally brought these back from my travels.......jewelry makers are always trying to buy them from me...but I keep holding on to them because my SO wants me to keep them LOL.

Nice car Forme!!!!!!

Very Gorgeous and Interesting Popster,

I have seen those beads before, but didn't know of their connection with the later Venetian paperweights--which is mainly what they had on display at the museum. In my brief reading, it was mentioned that something like this was done by Romans. Maybe Rome to Africa, to Italy. Everybody adds a twist. I did see a pic or two of the teeny floral patterns being formed a the end of rods for the encasement of clear glass. Like you, I'm not how they put it all together, but interesting what you show and say.

A lot of pretty colors in that picture, Linville.
