The Black Cat (1934)

Honeymooning in Hungary, Joan and Peter Allison share
their train compartment with Dr. Vitus Verdegast,
a courtly but tragic man who is returning to the remains
of the town he defended before becoming a prisoner of war
for fifteen years. When their hotel-bound bus crashes
in a mountain storm and Joan is injured,
the travelers seek refuge in the home,
built fortress-like upon the site of a bloody battlefield,
of famed architect Hjalmar Poelzig.
There, cat-phobic Verdegast learns his wife's fate,
grieves for his lost daughter,
and must play a game of chess for the Allisons' lives.

Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, John Carradine, Lucille Lund

Key Largo (1948)

Frank McCloud travels to a run-down hotel on Key Largo
to honor the memory of a friend who died bravely in his
unit during WW II. His friend's widow, Nora Temple,
and wheelchair bound father-inlaw,
James Temple manage the hotel and receive him warmly,
but the three of them soon find themselves virtual prisoners
when the hotel is taken over by a mob of gangsters
led by Johnny Rocco who hole up there to await the
passing of a hurricane. Mr. Temple strongly reviles Rocco
but due to his infirmities can only confront him verbally.
Having become disillusioned by the violence of war,
Frank is reluctant to act,
but Rocco's demeaning treatment of his alcoholic moll,
Gaye Dawn, and his complicity in the deaths of the
Osceola Brothers and a deputy sheriff start to
motivate McCloud to overcome his Hamlet-like inaction.

A Lassie movie. After years of prospecting, Jonathan finally strikes gold.
He returns to town only to discover that his partner has since died and left

sharing the gold, and lures Jonathan to his death. Lassie immediately deduces
what's happened, so Lin poisons Lassie. Lassie barely pulls through and

3 STOOGES

The Stooges join a Woman Haters club but have a hard time sticking
to their vows when Larry is the first one to fall prey to the charms of a cute blonde gal.
More and Curly do everything in their power to dissuade him, but are not very successful.
The only drawback is that the movie is all singing and rhyming. Nonetheless,
you still get to see the boys doing what they do best, slapstick and getting into trouble.
